Course Summary

Students in Software Consulting will utilize a variety of software application skills and the ability to integrate applications using word processing, spread sheet, and presentation software as they complete real world projects.  This course is intended to stimulate self directed learning—a key factor to future success. 

 

Prerequisite

Advanced Software Applications or Web Design

 

Course Goals

Students will:

Explore and utilize word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software functions to maintain and present information.

Provide software and clerical service to others in and outside North Salem High School

bullet

Develop skills needed to become a self-directed learner

bullet

Improve reading, writing and mathematic competence

 

Grading Criteria

Activities - 80%

Work Ethic - 20%

 

Grading Scale

A = 90 - 100%

B = 80 - 89%

C = 70 - 79%

D = 60 - 69%

F = 0 - 59%

 

Due Dates

Activities must be turned in on time.  Late work will be subject to a lower grade.  Due dates will be posted online, so absences should not affect due dates.  Although many students may choose to work ahead and rapidly move through the activities, a minimum pacing schedule will be provided.  It is strongly recommended that all students actively participate throughout the term.

 

Activities - This class includes a variety of activities intended to offer students an opportunity to develop the web design skills needed to complete the final project.  Each activity is graded using an appropriate scoring guide.

 

Work Ethic - Each student is given 5 point per day.  If the student is on time to class, on task and productive the student keeps the points.  If the student is tardy, absent, off task or unproductive points are taken away.

 

Course Materials

IBM compatible computers with access to the Internet, Microsoft Office software.  Students must supply a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk to back-up their work.  (A limited supply of disks may be available from the instructor.)  Student data will be saved to a personal folder on a file server; however, students are required to back-up all work.

 

Opportunity for FBLA Recognition 

This class is part of the North Salem Business and Management Academy.  In addition, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) activities are an integral part of this program.  

 

When appropriate, students may choose activity options that allow them to work towards the Future, Business, Leader and America levels of the FBLA individual recognition program.  Students are encouraged to choose the FBLA options so that they may receive future recognition.

Classroom Rules

 

Arrive to class on time and ready to work

No food or drink in the lab (except water)

Absolutely no off-task Internet usage

Do NOT download any software (games, utilities, music, etc.)

Do NOT use any 'chat' software (AOL Instant Messenger, etc.)

 

Consequences

Verbal warning ~ Student/teacher conference ~ Parent contact (you will call your parents and discuss the problem) ~ Administrative interaction
