Frequenty Asked Questions/ Yondr Q&A

Question (Q): What happens if there’s an emergency and I need to check on my student?

Answer (A): We follow important protocols as a school and part of the SKPS district to keep students and staff safe. If there is an emergency, we have telephones in each classroom that teachers have access to. Additionally, we have a team of staff members ready to answer and respond to phone calls when you contact us. As a school, we work with our district team to send communication as soon as possible during instances such as a lockdown to ensure you have timely and accurate information about the safety of your student.

  • If you need support with ParentSquare, please contact our main office.

Q: Sometimes I need to pick up my student to take them to an appointment. How am I supposed to let them know that I am coming to pick them up?

A: We thank you in advance for working to protect the school day from appointments that would remove students from their classes. When there is an appointment, please contact the office or have your student talk with an office team member. You will want to plan extra time to ensure we have the time to follow up on your request. We will work to locate your student and have them ready to leave as soon as possible. As a reminder, any appointments need to have parent/guardian permission for us to pull a student from class.

Q: My student has medical needs that require them to use their cell phone/smart watch. If they need this for their health, can they continue to have it available to them?

A: We will accommodate any needs of students who require their personal electronic devices to support their health. As is the requirement, any medical needs must be documented from care providers.

Q: Why are you taking away personal electronics? My student doesn’t have any issues with theirs and I want them to keep it.

A: While our policy is in alignment with the governor’s executive order, we also know that they are highly distracting during learning, provide social interactions that can often result in safety issues for themselves, others, and the school community, and there are considerable issues with anxiety, attention span, and focus that stem from overuse of electronic devices. Our responsibility is to maximize and prioritize student safety, learning, and well-being. This is one more step that supports this work.
