NSHS News 11/3/17

Good morning Vikings! Here are your daily student announcements for Friday, November 3

  • Students get your ticket for the Spirit bus to Portland and cheer on our Boy’s Soccer team as they compete in round three of the OSAA State Championship Quarterfinals of the Elite Eight! The will face The Generals of Grant High School on Saturday, November 4th at 1p.m. Spirit bus riders must have a parent/guardian signed permission form and pay the $10 fee to the bookkeeper today by 3:00 p.m. to ride. The bus leaves Saturday from the small parking lot on 14th street at 11:30 a.m. Be there early. Pick up your forms at the bookkeepers window today.
  • Last week the cross country team competed in the GVC championship meet. Our girls’ JV team took home the first ever JV team conference title and won by more than 35 points. The JV team was led by Dana Romero, Brianna Marquez, and Aaliyah Fitzke. Our boys Varsity team finished 5th as a team in the conference meet, their 6th season in a row finishing in the top five in the conference! The girls varsity team finished in 4th place as a team at the conference meet. Our girls team completes the season ranked 22nd in Oregon. Sophomore Abi Swain and Senior Madison Willhoft individually qualified for the state cross country championships this Saturday at Lane Community College! Abi was 6th and Maddy was 10th in the GVC meet. This is the first time since 1997 that North Salem has two girls representing our program at the state championships in cross country. We wish you good luck ladies! You make us all proud!
  • The first day of Boys Basketball Tryouts is coming up on November 13th at 5:30pm. We will meet in the main gym and tryouts will be 2 hours long. To be eligible for tryouts, you must have filled out the sports packet that is located in the main office, have an up to date physical, and have paid the participation fee. For questions, you can contact Emily Perlich in the main office, Coach Mercado in Room 246 or Coach McLeod in 207. Basketball is back! See you then!
  • Tough kids, listen up! Wrestling season is just around the corner! There is a pre-season, informational meeting immediately after school on Friday, November 3rd in coach Pickett’s room 133. If you want to wrestle, you must attend the meeting or see coach Pickett prior to the meeting if you are unable to attend. We are looking forward to another great year. Come get some!!
  • Need a little organization in your life? Purchase a North Salem planner! It’s only $3! See our bookkeeper!
  • Have a safe and restful weekend Vikings and don’t eat too much Halloween candy!

Athlete of the week!

Vote Abi Swain for athlete of the week! Abi set a personal record Saturday at the George Fox XC Classic with a time of 19:03.5. That time makes her the fifth-fastest runner among Greater Valley Conference girls this season. Click the link below!

EOS Survey

Below is the link for students to access the EOS Student Survey at Salem-Keizer Public Schools.  Students should use their School ID number to log into the survey. 

Once students are logged into the survey, it should take about 30-40 minutes to complete. Students can only take the survey once. They cannot go back to previous pages. However, if the survey is interrupted, the participant can log back in and return where they left off.

The lists of students programmed to do the survey at your school can be downloaded in the Portal. Click on the “Surveys” icon, then click on the triangle next to “2017-18.Salem-Keizer Student Survey” and lastly click on the download CSV button next to your school name.

Good morning Vikings! Here are your daily student announcements for Tuesday, October 10

College and Career Readiness Day
This coming Wednesday, October 11th, North Salem High School will be having its College and Career Readiness Day. At 7:30am, students should report to their Period 3 class. That morning, students will attend grade level activities.

  • Freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9 Test.
  • Sophomores will take the PSAT test.
  • Juniors will take the ASVAB test.
  • Seniors will attend a College & Career Fair, complete their Personal Education Plan which is a graduation requirement, and go to a graduation informational session by Josten’s.

That afternoon, students will work with teachers to review their transcripts, graduation requirements, and progress report grades. We will end the day with a Staff vs. Senior Volleyball game. Due to the security of the testing environment, it will be difficult to call students out of their testing labs. All students participating in testing should schedule appointments that day after 11:30am.

Thursday, October 12 and Friday, October 13 there will be no school for students. These are grading and inservice days for staff.

Vikings remember that Picture Re-take day is Thursday, October 19th.

Saturday School will be in session tomorrow, October 7th from 9-1:00 p.m. Sign up today if you need the extra support, school resources or time to work on class assignments. Breakfast, lunch and teacher help are all provided.

Next week is a short one for students. College and Career Readiness Day is Wednesday, October 11. Check out the schedules posted in the hallway for your grade assignments for the day. Thursday, October 12 and Friday, October 13 there will be no school for students. These are grading and inservice days for staff.

Vikings remember that Picture Re-take day is Thursday, October 19th.

Attention TRiO Seniors and Juniors! There will be a campus visit to Oregon State University on Friday, October 13th. Please see Adrian Rodriguez in room 110 if you are interested.

Attention student drivers. Student parking permits have sold out, and we have no more for this school year.
