Senior yearbook photos

Senior pictures for the Yearbook are due by October 31, 2017.  Pictures received after October 31, 2017 are not guaranteed to be included in the yearbook. Please submit your photos to Sarah Cowan, Yearbook Advisor. There are 4 ways to submit:

  1. Email a JPEG to cowan_sarah@salkeiz.k12.or.us (most preferable).  Please include your full name in the email subject.
  2. Bring a JPEG on a flashdrive or CD to room 135
  3. Have your photographer email a copy to cowan_sarah@salkeiz.k12.or.us
  4. Bring a printed photo to Mrs. Cowan in room 135 to be scanned.  (this is the least preferable due to image quality)

Criteria for photo submission:

  • Must be a headshot (from the waist up)
  • Photo must be VERTICAL
  • Please submit a photo of the highest resolution… no selfies or screen shots.

Note that most photos will end up being cropped as to focus in on the seniors’ face.  The best pictures for the yearbook are close-ups focusing on the seniors’ head and shoulders.  Any pictures deemed inappropriate or offensive will not be used.

If you are not submitting photos digitally, please bring in a print that is at least wallet-sized (3 x 2 inch) and reproduced professionally.  Many home printers do not print photos that reproduce well in the yearbook.  Please note, we may not be able to return actual prints. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.  We want your senior yearbook to have the best possible picture of you in its pages.

NSHS News 9/27/2017

Good morning Vikings! Here are your daily student announcements for Wednesday, September 27.

  • Get help paying for college! North Salem High School FAFSA Day is October 2nd in the library from 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Attention TRiO Seniors and Juniors! There will be a campus visit to Oregon State University on Friday, October 13th. Please see Adrian Rodriguez in room 110 is you are interested.
  • Wrestling pre-season workouts will begin in October! Workouts will be after school 3-4:00 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the wrestling room will be open. On Wednesdays, wrestlers will be in the weight room. See Coach Pickett in Room 133 for a schedule. (9.25-29.17)
  • Juniors who would like to participate in PSAT testing need to sign up for the test at the bookkeeper’s window by Thursday, September 28. There are a limited number of tests, so sign up as soon as possible.
  • Are you a teen leader in school or the community? A teen who cares about causes or issues but doesn’t know where to get involved? Would you like to learn how to use your skills and talents in the real world? Are you a student that wants to check things out, have fun and get better at life? If these descriptions sound like you, please apply to attend the ILEAD Youth Leadership Summit – a free one day event, Saturday November 4th. If you want to change the world, come see Mrs. Such in room 128 for the application form. The deadline is October 20.

NSHS News 9/26/17

Good morning Vikings! Here are your daily student announcements for Tuesday, September 26.

  • Congratulations to the Varsity football team for a thrilling 22-21 Homecoming victory against West Albany on Friday night. Rigo Padilla scored his 3rd touchdown of the game with no time remaining and Zac Sullivan hit Alec Shields for the go ahead 2-point conversation for the win.  A key reception by Cris Davis with 3 seconds left set up the winning touchdown.  Way to go Viks!
  • On Saturday the North Salem Girl’s Cross Country team finished an outstanding 3rd place at the Nike Seaside 3-Course Challenge and brought home the first trophy of the season! They finished 3rd in the large school division and competed against 75 teams and more than 2800 individuals from Oregon, Washington, California, and Canada. Abi Swain finished in first place as the blue course champion, Madison Willhoft, Emma Haburn, Elia Sanchez, and Brianna Marquez all finished in the top 10 in their divisions. The Viking Girl’s varsity team also included top finishes by Julissa Escobedo and Dana Romero.

Athlete of the week!

 

Just a reminder that North Salem’s own Rigo Padilla is nominated for athlete of the week through the statesman journal.  Rigo rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries in Friday’s 22-21 homecoming win against West Albany.

Saturday School

Saturday School

Saturday School provides an optional sixth day of academic instruction with certified staff and community mentors and volunteers in a nurturing and supportive environment. The focus is on core content areas such as English, Math, Social Studies and Science.  Saturday School is offered for students who may need extra support,   to utilize school resources or to work on assigned coursework. Saturday School is from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and takes place in the North Salem High School Library. Breakfast and lunch are provided to students through our supper program. Transportation is not   provided.

There are three ways to sign up for Saturday  School:

  1. Parents are encouraged to sign up their students on the Saturday School page of the North Salem High School Website, or by contacting teacher, Donovan
  2. Students may sign-up for Saturday School with any of their

Spirit Week!!

Homecoming Week: Monday Sept. 18 – Friday Sept. 22. 

Monday September 18th: Spirit Day: “Good Morning,” pajama day

Tuesday September 19th: Spirit Day: “Travel Tuesday,” Celebrate your culture, and or any place that you have traveled in your lifetime. 

Wednesday September 20th: Spirit Day: “Wonderful vs. Wicked,” this is a day where you wear your favorite villain or superhero gear. 

Thursday September 21st: Spirit Day: “Flower vs. Flannel,” students dress in their best flannel print or favorite Flower print. 

Friday September 22nd: Assembly Schedule Spirit Day: Four Seasons, students dress in their class theme on Friday, they will be wearing clothing appropriate for one of the four seasons. 

Homecoming Parade: Starts at 5pm at St. Timothy’s Church parking lot 3295 Ladd Ave. NE and ends in the North Salem Large Parking Lot. 

Homecoming Game: Starts @ 7pm with Homecoming Court Introduction during Halftime

Homecoming Dance: Follows the game until 11 pm.

Online Schedule Changes

All students will be using a new online schedule change request process for the 2017-18 school year.  The schedule change request link will be available beginning on Thursday, August 17th.  Students will need to Log-In to their StudentVue account and view their schedule.  If a student needs to request a schedule change, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Go to the North Salem High School Website
  2. Click on the Schedule Change Request link on the homepage or click here: http://north.skcounselors.com/schedule/
  3. Completely fill out the electronic request form
  4. Requests are answered in the order they are received. Not all requests will be honored.  Students will receive an email with the outcome of their request once it has been processed.  Schedules will not be changed to accommodate teacher or class period requests.  If you are requesting an aide or release period, you will be asked to complete an additional form that will be available in the Counseling Office.
  5. For further instructions click Online Schedule Change Request

*Last day to request a schedule change is Wednesday, August 30th at 5pm.

WHAT IS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS AUGUST 17TH?

  1. Buy an ASB Card, Student Photos & 2018 Yearbook
  2.  Pay fall sports fees
  3.  Locker assignments (grades 9, 10, 11 will share a locker)
  4. A draft copy of your scheduled classes
  5.  Complete a Free and Reduced Lunch Application
  6.  Apply for a parking permit (juniors and seniors only)
  7.  All students must have a picture taken for student school ID. Dress according to school district dress code.

 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU FOR TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS DAY?

  1. Demographic Pre-Registration Form completed (even if there are no changes)
  2. Your current email address
  3. Completed Free/Reduced Lunch Application.
  4. Completed Student Fees Worksheet
  5.  Cash, checks or credit/debit cards to make purchases or pay past due fees.
  6. Student Parking Permit Application

North Salem High School Parent University Nights

“Planning for Graduation and College & Career Readiness” Series

Monday’s from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M.  In the school library

North Salem High School is committed to educating parents about how to prepare their student academically for graduation, and the college and career process.  These meetings will consist of several sessions of college and career information that will assist your students through their academic path.  North will provide refreshments and childcare for children 3 through 10 years old.
